Proper Maintenance of your Plumbing System Minimizes your Need for a Plumber

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

If you’re a homeowner, you might be surprised about how many simple tricks can be done to your plumbing system that will really improve its upkeep. Granted, nobody wants to snake a toilet at the end of a long day at the office, nor does anyone want to have their weekend consumed installing a sink when the day would be better spent at the park with the family. Sometimes it’s simply convenient to rely on local LA plumbers when you have a big job to do. But there are simple steps you can do every day to your own system that will minimize the times you’ll have to contact local plumbers in LA for really big jobs.

Clogs can result from either having a large object or multiple objects stuck in your pipes, leaving you standing in a lake every time you take a shower or discovering an ocean when you wander into the basement. Sometimes, the clog can result from an issue you have little control over, but more often than not, it’s because there’s something in your pipes that simply shouldn’t be there. By just preventing clogs, you avoid a slew of problems that would require services from local LA plumbers, costing you money from issues you can quickly take care of yourself.

One of the surest ways to avoid clogs is to never flush anything down the toilet but human waste and toilet paper. Kids especially should be warned. A GI Joe is no American hero if he completely ruins your plumbing line.

Don’t mistake your garbage disposal for a garbage can. Never put anything fibrous, greasy or non-biodegradable down your garbage disposal, and always run water whenever you are using it. Keep water running for 15 seconds both before and after using the disposal.

Install grates in your shower drains to catch hair. You’d be surprised how much of your hair ends up clogged in your pipes.

A root control product should be regularly flushed down your pipes, especially if you’ve had root problems before. Most local plumbers in LA specialize in root removal and should be able to recommend a qualified brand of root control.

By following these simple steps, you’ll maintain your plumbing system and minimize the times you need to call in the professionals. The better you maintain and treat your system, the longer your pipes will last and the fewer service calls you’ll need.

Retirement Insurance

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

It is no mystery that selling insurance products is a great way to make money. After all, premiums constitute a long-term cash flow that almost always conforms to an insurance company’s actuarial assumptions, allowing them to pass on a good chunk of the premium they charge back to you, the sales person. Now more than ever, nervous investors and savers alike are turning to insurance companies to offer them the peace of mind that comes with structured products, propelling an explosion in annuity retirement demand. The protection of principle along with guaranteed minimum interest or rates of return is an attractive element of annuity products, yet because they are structured by the masters of risk measurement – insurance companies – the commission from an annuity sell is a very generous portion of the ‘premium’ the insurance company charges in return for carrying market-related risk of losing principle capital to market volatility.

As mentioned, annuities are extremely popular these days because of the certainty they guarantee the investor: a fixed or minimum payment for the rest of his or her life, with a real possibility for growth of principle. It does not take a pitchman to realize that in these very frightening financial times, individuals will flock toward safer, more conservative investments after having seen much of their net worth evaporate, despite its being invested in supposed low-risk ‘blue chip’ stocks like General Electric, Citigroup, and Macy’s. After years of being trodden by commentators for fees and sales charges, more and more people will be willing to take smaller returns during market recoveries in exchange for peace of mind and a guarantee of principle in the long-run. In other words, an annuity retirement is looking more and more appealing to the thousands of Americans who have watched 401(k) accounts turn into 101(k) accounts – so to speak.

In a word, to make an annuity sell one only needs to empathize with the millions of people in need of practical financial solutions for retirement. Several companies offer annuity products that are specifically geared toward mid- to high net worth individuals, allowing those with guaranteed income to leverage their future earnings toward greater principle and greater compound interest in a structured annuity product. To the salesperson, that means a high commission for selling a conservative and relatively safe product to someone who could really use it: the annuity will practically sell itself.

Dental Veneers

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Being able to smile with confidence is a very important part of a person’s life. Hiding behind crooked or discolored teeth can be a burden. Today, cosmetic dentistry can fix these horrid teeth problems. One of the quickest and painless procedures you can get to improve your smile is through porcelain veneers.

A California dentist invented veneers. At the time, they fell off very easily and were used to temporarily improve actors’ teeth. Due to much advancement in dental technology, today’s porcelain veneers can last for decades. In some cases porcelain veneers need to be replaced and this can cost around 1,000 dollars a tooth.

Porcelain veneers are used to disguise colored teeth that do not respond to whitening or to fill gaps. Dental veneers require little or no drilling. Veneers can be placed in one session if tooth reshaping is not required. However, since the teeth are not shaped down to size the veneers may appear to be too big unless using thin sheets of porcelain.

Most common veneers are thin sheets of porcelain no thicker than a fingernail. Porcelain veneers are custom-made laminates that are bonded to teeth. They are used to disguise colored teeth that do not respond to whitening or to fill gaps.  Veneers can also be used to cover any thinning teeth or teeth that are cracked. They can also be used to straighten teeth that do not require orthodontics.

Porcelain mimics tooth structure perfectly and is harder than enamel so it can withstand better than any other material. Porcelain is glass-like in nature and this makes it translucent like enamel. Other materials do not reflect light like the natural enamel on our teeth and will stand out against the other teeth. When light hits a porcelain-veneered tooth it will penetrate and reflect resembling the enamel on your other teeth.

Many dental materials are prone to staining and discoloring. Certain food, red wine, coffee, and tobacco products cause this. Since porcelain is like glass, it is very resistant to staining making porcelain veneers a long lasting addition to your smile.

Porcelain veneers can make a world of difference in the correction of your teeth. Hiding behind crooked or cracked teeth is a time of the past. Showing your smile and being proud of it is something we all deserve.
